Looking Forward to a Sustainable Future
TIME CHANGE: Saturday, July 28, 10:00 am
Energy, water, waste, transportation . . . how with all of these needs and systems in place, given the modern conveniences we’re accustomed to, will we achieve a sustainable future? What is there to look forward to as more and more frequently we read and hear about the detrimental effects global warming is having on our planet and how we are the ultimate cause?
By 2025, major changes in infrastructure systems will be impacting our planet. In this presentation, David Johnston, green building visionary and author, will address current global movements towards sustainability: who are the leaders in this movement, what innovations are developing and taking us to this goal, and what there is to look forward to. He will also provide insight into the current state of the planet, based on information gathered from the Earth Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2003, exploring topics such as population, water, food, climate change and energy use as they affect the built environment we are all a part of.
David Johnston is a leading thinker behind the green building movement whose approach to green building has been embraced by municipalities, homeowners, building professionals and sustainability advocates nationwide. As founder and president of What’s Working, Inc., a green building consultancy that provides socially and ecologically responsible guidance to businesses, agencies and communities, Johnston is committed to radically transforming the way America builds. His latest book, Green Remodeling: Changing the World, One Room at a Time, has been hailed as the definitive guide to green remodeling techniques. |
